About the blog

Why is this blog called The Paleo Snark, and why do we need another blog about the Paleo diet?

Good question. I've been living a Paleo lifestyle, or as close to one as I can while working full time and taking a full-time load of college classes. I credit the Paleo diet and lifestyle with helping me shed over 60 lbs while gaining muscle and defending against the stress of work and school.

Yeah, but why the blog?
Ah, yes. I see this blog as a resource for others and for myself. I'm a full-time college student majoring in anthropology. I'm also employed full time in the allied health field. This blog is a place for me to vent my ideas and thoughts about Paleo living and health care, and post journal articles pertinent to the application of the paleo lifestyle to modern disease. I credit the latter idea to Loren Cordain and anthropologist John Hawks, both of whom have seen fit to post academic works on their respective sites for the benefit of others. I hope to create an amalgam of professional articles that others might find useful while studying various aspects of the paleo diet.

And the Snark?
The Snark is taken directly from Lewis Carroll's "The Hunting of the Snark." In Carroll's poem, several men sail the ocean with a blank map, searching for an unimaginable beast they can't identify. How else could I describe a blog I haven't written yet, about a lifestyle has few, if any, hard and fast boundaries? Of note in Carroll's work are the various nonsense words, often portmanteau derivations from existing terms. These terms are uttered in such a natural way, with a meaning reminiscent of the old words while still being new and unique. I like that. As I apply a Paleo perspective to my Christian/husband/anthro student/professional life, I have managed to smish more than a few apparently conflicting ideas together into my own personal brand of Paleo life.
